Creating "Add to Calendar" Links in a NoteRouter Message
Not all recipient calendars support all types of "Add to Calendar" links. The type of "Add to Calendar" link you want to create will be affected by what calendar service your event is hosted by.
Step 1: Prepare
- Creating an "Add to Calendar" link for an event hosted in Outlook:
Start by getting an *.ics file for your event. Select your appointment in Outlook, click the File menu, and select "Save As." Before naming the file and selecting the save location, make sure the file type selected is “Calendar Format (*.ics).” We are going to upload this file into NoteRouter, which will create the "Add to Calendar" action in your message.
- Creating an "Add to Calendar" link for an event hosted in Apple Calendar:
Start by getting an *.ics file for your event. With Apple calendar open, click and hold your mouse on the event, then drag and drop it to your desktop. This will save an *.ics file for your event on your desktop. We are going to upload this file into NoteRouter, which will create the "Add to Calendar" action in your message.
- Creating an "Add to Calendar" link for an event hosted in a Public Google Calendar:
Start by making sure your Google Calendar's visibility is set to Public. Click your event and go to the three-dot "Options" menu. Select the "Publish" option and copy the second link to your clipboard. We are going to paste this link into NoteRouter, which will create the "Add to Calendar" action in your message.
Step 2: Insert
- Creating your "Add to Calendar" link in NoteRouter using a saved *.ics file:
Open your message file in NoteRouter. Select the element in your message that you would like to give the "Add to Calendar" action, such as a button. In the options panel, find the "Action" section and click the "Link File" option. Click the blue "Upload" button, then locate the *.ics file you saved to your computer and click "Open."
- Creating your "Add to Calendar" link in NoteRouter using an event link:
Open your message file in NoteRouter. Select the element in your message that you would like to give the "Add to Calendar" action, such as a button. In the options panel, find the "Action" section and paste the event link into the "URL" box.
Step 3: Profit
You did it! Keep in mind that not all devices and calendars will support all "Add to Calendar" links. For this reason, you may want to consider adding two types of "Add to Calendar" links to your message - A public Google Calendar invite for Google Calendars users; and an *.ics-based invite for users of Outlook, Apple, and other calendars.
